When should I start shopping for my gown?

As soon as you have your venue booked, and a date confirmed, then the next thing to do is find your gown. The more time you have to plan, the better! But you should always start shopping for your gown when you feel ready, as everything else will all revolve around it.

When do I need to order my gown by?

We advise you order your gown at least 12-18 months from your wedding date, due to delivery dates given from our suppliers. We would like to aim to have your gown in store around 4-6 months before your wear date, to allow enough time for fittings and alterations. Some brides like to order more than 2 years in advance, and this is also perfectly normal to us.

How long does it take for my gown to be made?

All our gowns are made to order. This means it can often take 4-8 months to arrive, which is why we advise you order so far in advance.

Do I need to book an appointment to try on?

Yes, we work by appointment as we offer a two hour consultation with a bridal stylist, who is here to make this an enjoyable time for you. We like to know our brides are served in a relaxed environment, so that we can concentrate on you and your needs. If you do drop by for a browse, and we have availability, we will be more than happy to see you. However, if we do have a bride due in, we will offer you our next available appointment.

Our maids department works on private bookings to protect you and your maids privacy. This means we do not allow browsing while a bride and her party is booked in our suite. Sometimes choosing their gowns feels harder than finding your own, so we also offer up to two hours per party with a bridal stylist who will help you find your perfect look!

Who should I bring with me to help me choose my dress?

Whoever you need to order your gown! Our brides usually bring one or two close relatives to help them choose their gown. We do have seated availability for 2-4 people to attend, but remember the more opinions you have, the more overwhelmed you may feel if they all like different gowns. Bringing a select few, means it’s also more exciting on your wedding day to show off your gown!

Are all gowns made to fit from order, or will I need alterations?

All gowns are made to a size chart that is unique to each supplier. We work out the closest fit possible for you by taking a few measurements and comparing against their size chart. We always advise you will need minor alterations to make your gown fit perfectly. We will advise you on this when you order, so you will always know what to expect.

When do alterations get done and how long do they take?

Alterations are normally started around 10-12 weeks before your wedding day, with a final fitting about 10-14 days before, to make sure everything is perfect. Bespoke work may be started earlier than this, due to the volume of brides we cater for. We alter gowns in wedding date order, as this is fair to everyone. If your gown is pinned a few months before your wedding, your fitting will still take place closer to your wear date.

What size dresses do you stock?

We carry a wide range of sizes from 0-30 in all styles of gowns, so that most brides will be able to try a gown on that will fit almost perfectly. In our first floor bridal area we cater for 0-14, and in our second floor we have sizes 16-30. Even if we don’t have your gown in the right size, this will give you the confidence to know how your gown will feel when it comes in. If you average in between sizes, we are more than happy to bring gowns up or down from each department, if need be.

Can I try a gown on even if it is not my size?<

In a word – Yes! Some gowns have corsets which enable a better fit when trying them on, and even if they don’t fit perfectly, we will give you an idea of how it will look when it does fit. Each designer is different, and they are not true to ‘high street’ sizing, but we always aim to put you in gowns that will make you feel amazing.

I fit a size 20 in shops; will I pay more for the size of the gown with you?

No! – Some suppliers will charge extra for size 18 and over, but as each size chart is different, we feel this may not be fair if we have to allow for a bigger size due to one measurement. So, as part of our service to you, we have decided NOT to charge extra, by absorbing that cost ourselves and keeping all our bridal gowns at one price.

How do you determine what size dress I need?

We take a few simple measurements, and work out the closest fit on our suppliers size chart. We determine your gown size when you place your order, as the design of the gown can change which measurement we need to focus on. We discuss this with you at the time of purchase so you are confident in our order process.

I need a dress quickly; can I still order a dress from you?

Some of our suppliers carry stock, so we can get certain gowns in a hurry. It’s always better to call us and ask, rather than worry if you think you are on a tight deadline. There’s always something that we may be able to do for you.

I am currently pregnant can I still come and try dresses?

Yes, if you are in the early stages of pregnancy. You will still get a very good idea of how the gowns will look, but please tell us so that we don’t pull too tight around the waist. If you are close to the end of the pregnancy, then it may be better to book in for few weeks after you’ve had your baby, so you can see how the gowns will look.

What’s the price range of the dresses?

Our bridal designers range from around £600 to £2,250, but for your peace of mind, we always ask you what budget you want to stay within when we meet you. Our bridesmaids start from £99 for adult styles and max out around £300.

Do you have any deals?

Our brides usually find their perfect gown on their first visit to our store, so as a ‘Thank You’ for ordering at your first appointment, we provide you with one complimentary bridesmaid gown worth £150. This offer is unique to our store, and you can choose your free bridesmaid gown any time before your wedding date. This includes the gown only, and is available on all full price new orders.

I’m on a very tight budget; can you still help me with a gown?

Yes, we still have options that are available for brides on smaller budgets, just give us a call, and we can go through what your requirements are, and what gowns will be available.

Do the dresses come in different lengths?

Yes, some of our gowns come in shorter lengths (for free) for petite brides, and some have longer lengths available for taller brides (at an extra charge due to more fabric usage).

I want to lose weight before my wedding can I order my dress in a smaller size?

We can only order a gown that we know will fit you. Most of the time, your bone structure determines the size rather than any weight you want to lose. If you do lose weight after we have ordered, some gowns may still not need altering if they have a corset back. If you do lose a lot of weight, then all the gowns can be altered in to fit closer to the time. Bridal gowns do not really have seam allowance to let them out, but we can always take them in.

How much do I pay when I order my dress?

When you order your gown from us, we only ever ask you to pay 50% on order. Your balance is due at your first fitting, within 10 days of your gown arriving in store.

What underwear should I wear when trying dresses?

We advise to wear neutral comfy and seam free underwear, but you will not normally need a bra with our gowns, due to them having built in structure and corsetry panelling inside them.

Can I take pictures?

We operate an ‘Unplugged Bridal Boutique’ policy through your appointment for the privacy of our staff and all our customers. This allows your guests to focus their full attention on you, while you enjoy finding your wedding gown without worrying what you look like on a phone with no filter added! All our gowns have images that our companies provide on line, which shows your gown to its full potential. We also have an amazing new concept arriving soon, that our photo savvy brides will absolutely love!

Do you store dresses when they arrive?

Yes we can. We have a separate locked room which we now use for customer gowns, so you don’t have to worry about taking your gown home. You can decide to opt for this service when you have your first fitting.

How many fittings will I need?

That will depend on the fit of your gown, and what alterations you need. On average, you will only try your gown on around 2 – 3 times before the wedding so as to keep it in perfect condition, and so you feel more special on the day!

If I find a dress online but you don’t have a sample, can you get one to try on?

Yes, sometimes we can. If our suppliers offer sample loans, then we can arrange to have one sent into the store to try on. Often brides change their mind on styles they thought they first liked though, and we do have such a wide variety here already, so we may have something similar anyway
