When should I start shopping for my gown?

As soon as you have your venue booked, and a date confirmed, then the next thing to do is find your gown. The more time you have to plan, the better! But you should always start shopping for your gown when you feel ready, as everything else will all revolve around it. We look after brides for many years sometimes, and we cant wait to get planning with you!

When do I need to order my gown by?

As soon as you find “The one”…after all, if you find something makes you feel amazing, you should either marry it, or buy it! The more time you allow the better. Some brides like to order more than 2 years in advance, and some walk in with a month to go, everything is normal to us in our boutique.

How long does it take for my gown to be made?

If your gown is made to order, or has to be delivered, it can take anywhere from a few days to a few months.

I need a dress quickly; can I still come to you?

Yes! – We have our own collection of gowns that can be ordered in most sizes and stock levels are kept topped up in the UK, so you can pick one and have it arrive in your size within a few days. Also, our new Outlet structure means that we always carry a selection of gowns for you to try on, and take away with you THAT day! What makes us unique is that as a Boutique, we know some of our gowns may be tried on previously by someone else. So for that reason, you will ALWAYS get a discount on a gown selected from our rail! Why should you pay full price if it wasn’t ordered in brand new, and specially made for you! We do stand by our slogan, “Be looked after, Be unique, Buy boutique!”

Do I need to book an appointment to try on?

Yes Please! We like to offer every bride the best service we can, so we offer consultations with an expert bridal stylist who has been in the industry for many years. This is an enjoyable time for you, and its all about Boutique Service with us. Our brides are always looked after in a relaxed environment, so that we can concentrate on their needs and really get to know the whole party. If you do drop by for a browse, and we have availability, we will be more than happy to see you. However, if we do have a bride due in, we will offer you our next available appointment.

Who should I bring with me to help me choose my dress?

Whoever you need to say “Yes, to your dress!!” Our brides usually bring one or two close relatives to help them choose their gown. We have comfy sofas in each bridal area, but remember the more opinions you have, the more overwhelmed you may feel if they all like different gowns. Bringing a select few, means it’s also more exciting on your wedding day to show off your gown!

Will I need alterations?

All gowns are made to a size chart that is unique to each supplier. We work out the closest fit possible for you by taking a few measurements and comparing against their size chart. We always advise most brides will need minor alterations to make the gown fit perfectly. We will advise you on this when you find your gown, so you always know how to plan your wedding budget.

When do alterations get done and how long do they take?

Alterations are normally started around 12-14 weeks before your wedding day, with a final fitting about 10 days before, to make sure everything is perfect. Bespoke work may be started earlier than this, due to the volume of brides we cater for. We alter gowns in wedding date order, as this is fair to everyone. If your gown is pinned a few months before your wedding, your fitting will still take place closer to your wear date.

What size dresses do you stock?

We carry a range of sizes from 0-30 in all styles of gowns, so that most brides can try a gown that will fit almost perfectly. Even if we don’t have your gown in the right size, this will give you the confidence to know how your gown will feel when it comes in.  As we are trained professionals, we always make you feel great before stepping out of our styling rooms.

Can I try a gown on even if it is not my size?

In a word – Yes! Some gowns have corsets which enable a better fit when trying them on, and even if they don’t fit perfectly, we will give you an idea of how it will look when it does fit. Each designer is different, and they are not true to ‘high street’ sizing, but we always aim to put you in gowns that will make you feel amazing. As we have various collections to order from, we can order your own gown in the right size, so you never have to worry about losing out on the gown of your dreams like you would with chain store stock levels.

How do you determine what size dress I need?

We take a few simple measurements, and work out the closest fit on our suppliers size chart. We determine your gown size when you place your order, as the design of the gown can change which measurement we need to focus on. We discuss this with you at the time of purchase so you are confident in our order process.

I am currently pregnant can I still come and try dresses?

Yes, if you are in the early stages of pregnancy. You will still get a very good idea of how the gowns will look, but please tell us so that we don’t pull too tight around the waist. If you are close to the end of the pregnancy, then it may be better to book in for few weeks after you’ve had your baby, so you can see how the gowns will look and you can pamper yourself on a girly day out.

What’s the price range of your gowns?

Our bridal designers range from around £395 to £1,495, but for your peace of mind, we always ask you what budget you want to stay within when we meet you. Our bridesmaids start from £200 for adult styles and max out around £320. Dont forget, our “take me home today” price means you get a discount on that too!

What if I change shape or lose weight once I’ve bought my gown?

We can only order a gown that we guarantee will fit you. Most of the time, your bone structure determines the size rather than any weight you want to lose. However, if you do lose a lot of weight, then all gowns can be altered in to fit closer to the time. Bridal gowns dont have much seam allowance to let them out, but we can always take them in – in fact, we recently just sized an 18 to a 10, and a 14 to a 8. But life is about living, so be happy, eat the cake, order the takeaway, drink the drink, and love yourself for who you are….after all – your partner does!

How much do I pay when I order my dress?

If you buy from the rail you just pay for it there an then, and either take it home, or choose our gown storage service, and we always provide you with a free breathable heavy bridal storage cover with every bridal gown. If we order you a gown from stock holding or to be made, you pay 50% to order and the balance will be due as the gown is ready to ship. We always text you to advise when your gown is ready to be sent, so you know the same day we do! We also offer BACS payments now too, so its inconvenient or you to call us in the day, you can still make a payment after we close.

Can I take pictures?

We invite our guests to enjoy an ‘Unplugged Bridal Experience’ through part of your appointment, which is really for your comfort – and the privacy of our staff and other customers. This means your guests focus their full attention on you, while you can enjoy finding your wedding gown without worrying what you look like on a phone with no filters added! We all know how photos never look like you want them to, so remembering a gown that doesn’t fit perfectly, with you pulling a strange face, is not always what you want to see – Plus, you never know who may see the pictures on your friends phone!!
Once you are styled correctly in the gown of your dreams, we’ll invite you to take the right picture for your “memories“…So at least if you need to show someone who couldn’t be there, they can still feel part of it, and you will have a photo you like to look at!

Do you store dresses when they arrive?

Yes we can. We have a separate locked room which we now use for customer gowns, so you don’t have to worry about taking your gown home. You can decide to opt for this service when you have your first fitting. There’s a small charge for this service, which is for your peace of mind that its protected on our insurance policies. Being a “VIB Boutique Bride ” also means that you get your maids storage for free, when you store your wedding gown with us!

How many fittings will I need, and what happens after “I’ve said YES!”?

That will depend on the fit of your gown, and what alterations you need. On average, you try your gown on around 2 – 3 times before the wedding, so you keep it in perfect condition, and you’ll feel more special on the day! We know how exciting this is for you in the run up to your day, and we are used to brides being excited about trying their gown on, which is why we have our own “I’m a VIB” chat group on Facebook. Once you are a ‘Boutique Bride’, we invite you to join our group so you can chat to all our wonderful brides in privacy! Our team is also on hand to offer advice, and we post special offers from companies in the bridal industry who we know, and recommend. Your wedding day isn’t just one day, its every day leading up to it, and your memories last a lifetime!!

We hope this information has helped to welcome you to our services, and told you a little bit about how we look after you!

We look forward to hearing from you soon! Brides & Gowns Boutique & Outlet Team XX
